Flax do ok in mild cold which means that you can plant them a bit earlier in the year than plants that are more sensitive to the cold.

The earliest that you can plant flax in The Colony is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant flax and expect a good harvest is probably September. If you wait any later than that and your flax may not have a chance to grow to maturity. If you are starting your flax indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a few weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

The average date of last frost is March 15 in The Colony. You should expect an average low temperature of 10°F in the coldest months of winter.

It's important to remember that USDA zone info for The Colony is an average and the actual date of last frost is different every year. Since half of the time in The Colony it frosts late in the year after March 15 be ready to protect your flax if you have one of those late frosts.
