When can I plant Sutera in Zone 9b

When you should plant them: Up to 3 weeks before last frost.

Since sutera are one of those plants that can tolerate a tiny bit of cold weather you can plant them just a tiny bit earlier in the year than other frost tender plants.

The earliest that you can plant sutera in Zone 9b is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant sutera and expect a good harvest is probably September. Any later than that and your sutera may not have a chance to fully mature. Starting your sutera indoors is a great way to get them started a couple of weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 9b the average date of last frost happens on February 15. In the coldest months of winter we should expect an average low temperature of 25°F.

Always keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is not always accurate because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 9b and it can change quite a bit from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 9b last frost occurs after February 15 so just be sure to be ready to cover your sutera in the event of a late frost.
