When can I plant Eggplants in Zone 11a

One of the first steps we take when we are getting a good idea our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

The earliest that you can plant eggplants in Zone 11a is January. However, you really should wait until February if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant eggplants and expect a good harvest is probably November. If you wait any later than that and your eggplants may not have a chance to fully mature. If you are starting your eggplants indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a couple of weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 11a it never frosts. It might get as low as 40°F during the coldest months of winter.

Always keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 11a and it will vary from year to year. Since it never frosts in Zone 11a you do not have to be ready to cover your eggplants if we have a late frost.
