When can I plant Phlox in Zone 11a

One of the first steps we take when we are getting a good idea our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

By referring to the USDA zone info for Zone 11a you should be able to figure out when you can plant phlox.

Since phlox are one of those plants that can tolerate a little bit of cold weather you can plant them a little bit earlier in the year than plants that are more sensitive to the cold.

The earliest that you can plant phlox in Zone 11a is January. However, you really should wait until February if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant phlox and expect a good harvest is probably November. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your phlox may not have a chance to really do well. If you are starting your phlox indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a couple of weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 11a it never frosts. It might get as low as 40°F during the coldest months of winter.

Since the USDA zone info for Zone 11a may not be accurate from year to year our actual date of last frost changes from year to year. Since it never frosts in Zone 11a you do not have to be ready to cover your phlox if we have a surprise late frost.
