When you should plant them: Up to 7 weeks before last frost.

Since arabis are very cold tolerant you can plant them quite a bit earlier in the year than plants that are more sensitive to the cold.

The earliest that you can plant arabis in Zone 1b is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant arabis and expect a good harvest is probably July. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your arabis may not have a chance to fully mature. Starting your arabis indoors is a great way to get them started a couple of weeks earlier.

In Zone 1b the average date of last frost happens on June 15. In the coldest months of winter we should expect an average low temperature of -55°F.

Always keep in mind that USDA zone info for Zone 1b may not be accurate from year to year and our actual date of last frost can change quite a bit from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 1b last frost occurs after June 15 so be sure to be ready to protect your arabis in the event of a surprise late frost.
