When can I plant Field Peas in Zone 3b

One of the first steps we take when we are figuring out our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

The earliest that you can plant field peas in Zone 3b is March. However, you really should wait until April if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant field peas and expect a good harvest is probably August. If you wait any later than that and your field peas may not have a chance to fully mature. If you are starting your field peas indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a few weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

The average date of last frost is May 15 in Zone 3b. In the coldest months of winter we should expect an average low temperature of -35°F.

Just be sure to remember that USDA zone info for Zone 3b is not always accurate and our actual date of last frost will vary from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 3b we get surprised by a frost after May 15 so make sure that you are ready to protect your field peas if we have a surprise late frost.
