When can I plant Stocks in Zone 3b

One of the first steps we take when we are making a decision about our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

In Zone 3b you can estimate when it's possible to plant stocks by using the USDA zone info.

When you should plant them: Up to 3 weeks before last frost.

Stocks do ok in moderate cold which means that you can plant them slightly earlier than more sensitive plants.

The earliest that you can plant stocks in Zone 3b is April. However, you really should wait until May if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant stocks and expect a good harvest is probably August. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your stocks may not have a chance to grow to maturity. Starting your stocks indoors is a great way to get them started a few weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

On average the last frost when the weather gets warmer is on May 15 in Zone 3b. It might get as low as -35°F during the coldest months of winter.

Just be sure to remember that USDA zone info for Zone 3b is just an average and our actual date of last frost is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 3b there is a last frost after May 15 so make sure that you are ready to cover your stocks in the event of a surprise late frost.
