When can I plant Aubrieta in Zone 10a

Before planting it is a good idea to find our USDA Zone info to determine our garden schedule. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

Since aubrieta are one of those plants that can tolerate a little bit of cold weather you can plant them a bit earlier in the year than plants that are more sensitive to the cold.

The earliest that you can plant aubrieta in Zone 10a is January. However, you really should wait until February if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant aubrieta and expect a good harvest is probably October. If you wait any later than that and your aubrieta may not have a chance to really do well. If you are starting your aubrieta indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a couple of weeks earlier.

Keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is just an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 10a and it can change quite a bit from year to year. Since half of the time in Zone 10a last frost occurs after January 31 be ready to protect your aubrieta if we have one of those late frosts.
