When can I plant Phlox in Zone 10a

One of the first steps we take when we are estimating our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

Phlox are moderately cold tolerant which means that you can plant them earlier than other plants that might not handle the cold.

The earliest that you can plant phlox in Zone 10a is January. However, you really should wait until February if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant phlox and expect a good harvest is probably October. If you wait any later than that and your phlox may not have a chance to really do well. If you are starting your phlox indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a little bit earlier.

In Zone 10a the average date of last frost happens on January 31. It might get as low as 30°F during the coldest months of winter.
