When can I plant Geranium in Zone 7b

One of the first steps we take when we are determining our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

By referring to the USDA zone info for Zone 7b it's a good idea to figure out when you can plant geranium.

The earliest that you can plant geranium in Zone 7b is April. However, you really should wait until May if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant geranium and expect a good harvest is probably August. If you wait any later than that and your geranium may not have a chance to fully mature. Starting your geranium indoors is a great way to get them started a few weeks earlier.

In Zone 7b the average date of last frost happens on April 15. In the coldest months of winter we can expect an average low temperature of 5°F.

Just be sure to remember that our actual date of last frost is an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 7b and it is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 7b we get surprised by a frost after April 15 so make sure that you are ready to protect your geranium if we have a surprise late frost.
