When can I plant Violets in Zone 7b

One of the first steps we take when we are making a decision about our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

In Zone 7b you can determine when it's a good idea to plant violets by looking at the USDA zone info.

Violets do well in a little bit of cold which tells us that you can plant them a little earlier in the year than other frost tender plants.

The earliest that you can plant violets in Zone 7b is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant violets and expect a good harvest is probably September. Any later than that and your violets may not have a chance to really do well. Starting your violets indoors is a great way to get them started a couple of weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

On average the last frost is on April 15 in Zone 7b. It might get as low as 5°F during the coldest months of winter.

Always keep in mind that our actual date of last frost may not be accurate from year to year because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 7b and it will vary from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 7b we get a frost after April 15 so make sure that you are prepared to cover your violets if we have a late frost.
