When can I plant Peas in Zone 13a

One of the best tools that we have as gardeners to help us figure out our gardening schedule is the USDA zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

By using the USDA zone info for Zone 13a it's a good idea to figure out when to plant peas.

Peas can survive in a bit of cold which means that you can plant them a lot earlier in the year than plants that are more sensitive to the cold.

The earliest that you can plant peas in Zone 13a is January. However, you really should wait until February if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant peas and expect a good harvest is probably November. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your peas may not have a chance to fully mature. You can get started a little bit earlier by starting your peas indoors.

In Zone 13a it never frosts. We should expect an average low temperature of 60°F in the coldest months of winter.

Keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is not always accurate because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 13a and it can change quite a bit from year to year. Since it never frosts in Zone 13a you do not have to be ready to cover your peas if we have one of those late frosts.
