When can I plant Iberis in Zone 5a

One of the first steps we take when we are estimating our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

It's a good idea to figure out when it's a good idea to plant iberis by using the USDA zone info for Zone 5a.

The earliest that you can plant iberis in Zone 5a is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant iberis and expect a good harvest is probably September. If you wait any later than that and your iberis may not have a chance to fully mature. If you are starting your iberis indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a few weeks earlier.

In Zone 5a the average date of last frost happens on April 15. In the coldest months of winter we can expect an average low temperature of -20°F.

Keep in mind that our actual date of last frost may not be accurate from year to year because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 5a and it changes from year to year. Since half of the time in Zone 5a last frost occurs after April 15 be ready to protect your iberis if we have a late frost.
