When can I plant Impatiens in Zone 5a

The earliest that you can plant impatiens in Zone 5a is April. However, you really should wait until May if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant impatiens and expect a good harvest is probably August. If you wait any later than that and your impatiens may not have a chance to really do well. You can get started a few weeks earlier by starting your impatiens indoors.

The average date of last frost is April 15 in Zone 5a. In the coldest months of winter we can expect an average low temperature of -20°F.
