Since echinacea are one of those plants that can tolerate a tiny bit of cold weather you can plant them just a tiny bit earlier in the year than other plants that might not handle the cold.

The last month that you can plant echinacea and expect a good harvest is probably August. Half of the time in Zone 8a you get surprised by a frost after March 15 so be sure to be ready to cover your echinacea if you have one of those late frosts.
