The last month that you can plant celery and expect a good harvest is probably August. If you wait any later than that and your celery may not have a chance to really do well. Starting your celery indoors is a great way to get them started a couple of weeks earlier.

In Zone 4b the average date of last frost happens on May 15. It might get as low as -25°F during the coldest months of winter.

Keep in mind that the actual date of last frost is just an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 4b and it can change quite a bit from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 4b you get surprised by a frost after May 15 so be sure to be ready to cover your celery if you have one of those late frosts.
