When can I plant Elephant Ears in Zone 4b

One of the first steps we take when we are getting a good idea our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

The earliest that you can plant elephant ears in Zone 4b is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant elephant ears and expect a good harvest is probably August. Any later than that and your elephant ears may not have a chance to fully mature. You can get started a little bit earlier by starting your elephant ears indoors.

Last Frost Date

The average date of last frost is May 15 in Zone 4b. In the coldest months of winter we can expect an average low temperature of -25°F.

Always keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is not always accurate because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 4b and it changes from year to year. Since half of the time in Zone 4b last frost occurs after May 15 be ready to protect your elephant ears if we have one of those late frosts.
