When can I plant Aubrieta in Zone 5b

One of the best tools that we have as gardeners to help us figure out our gardening schedule is the USDA zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

By checking out the USDA zone info for Zone 5b you should be able to estimate when it's a good idea to plant aubrieta.

When you should plant them: Up to 5 weeks before last frost.

Since aubrieta are one of those plants that can tolerate a little bit of cold weather you can plant them just a bit earlier in the year than plants that are more sensitive to the cold.

The earliest that you can plant aubrieta in Zone 5b is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant aubrieta and expect a good harvest is probably September. If you wait any later than that and your aubrieta may not have a chance to fully mature. You can get started a couple of weeks earlier by starting your aubrieta indoors.

Last Frost Date

The average date of last frost is April 15 in Zone 5b. In the coldest months of winter we can expect an average low temperature of -15°F.

Always keep in mind that USDA zone info for Zone 5b may not be accurate from year to year and our actual date of last frost changes from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 5b we get surprised by a frost after April 15 so make sure that you are prepared to cover your aubrieta if we have a late frost.
