When can I plant Strawberries in Zone 5b

One of the first steps we take when we are figuring out our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

By using the USDA zone info for Zone 5b you should be able to determine when it's possible to plant strawberries.

You can plant strawberries earlier in the year because they are one of those plants that can tolerate quite a bit of cold weather.

The earliest that you can plant strawberries in Zone 5b is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant strawberries and expect a good harvest is probably September. If you wait any later than that and your strawberries may not have a chance to fully mature. You can get started a few weeks earlier by starting your strawberries indoors.

Last Frost Date

The average date of last frost is April 15 in Zone 5b. In the coldest months of winter we should expect an average low temperature of -15°F.
