When can I plant Chamomile in Zone 5b

One of the first steps we take when we are estimating our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

A way of making a decision about when it's possible to plant chamomile is to look at the USDA zone info for Zone 5b.

You can plant chamomile just a bit earlier in the year because they do well in moderate cold.

The earliest that you can plant chamomile in Zone 5b is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant chamomile and expect a good harvest is probably September. Any later than that and your chamomile may not have a chance to really do well. If you are starting your chamomile indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a couple of weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

The average date of last frost is April 15 in Zone 5b. We should expect an average low temperature of -15°F in the coldest months of winter.

Keep in mind that USDA zone info for Zone 5b is not always accurate and our actual date of last frost can change quite a bit from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 5b we get surprised by a frost after April 15 so make sure that you are ready to protect your chamomile if we have one of those late frosts.
