Foxglove are moderately cold tolerant which means that you can get them planted earlier than plants that are more sensitive to the cold.

The earliest that you can plant foxglove in Zone 5b is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant foxglove and expect a good harvest is probably September. Any later than that and your foxglove may not have a chance to really do well. If you are starting your foxglove indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a few weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

On average the last frost is on April 15 in Zone 5b. In the coldest months of winter you should expect an average low temperature of -15°F.

Keep in mind that the actual date of last frost is not always accurate because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 5b and it is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 5b there is a last frost after April 15 so make sure that you are prepared to protect your foxglove if you have a surprise late frost.
