When can I plant Oregano in Zone 9a

One of the first steps we take when we are estimating our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

The earliest that you can plant oregano in Zone 9a is January. However, you really should wait until February if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant oregano and expect a good harvest is probably October. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your oregano may not have a chance to really do well. Starting your oregano indoors is a great way to get them started a few weeks earlier.

On average the last frost has passed is on February 15 in Zone 9a. We should expect an average low temperature of 20°F in the coldest months of winter.

Just be sure to remember that USDA zone info for Zone 9a may not be accurate from year to year and our actual date of last frost can change quite a bit from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 9a last frost occurs after February 15 so make sure that you are prepared to protect your oregano if we have a late frost.
