When can I plant Oxalis in Zone 9a

One of the best tools that we have as gardeners to help us figure out our gardening schedule is the USDA zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

The USDA zone info for Zone 9a should be used to estimate when you can plant oxalis.

Oxalis require warm weather which means that you must wait until it warms up after the last frost when the weather gets warmer before you can plant them.

The earliest that you can plant oxalis in Zone 9a is March. However, you really should wait until April if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant oxalis and expect a good harvest is probably September. If you wait any later than that and your oxalis may not have a chance to really do well. If you are starting your oxalis indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a few weeks earlier.

On average the last frost is on February 15 in Zone 9a. It might get as low as 20°F during the coldest months of winter.

It's important to remember that USDA zone info for Zone 9a is not always accurate and our actual date of last frost will vary from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 9a we get surprised by a frost after February 15 so just be sure to be ready to protect your oxalis in the event of a surprise late frost.
