When can I plant Anise in Zone 1a

The earliest that you can plant anise in Zone 1a is June. However, you really should wait until July if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant anise and expect a good harvest is probably July. If you wait any later than that and your anise may not have a chance to fully mature. You can get started a couple of weeks earlier by starting your anise indoors.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 1a the average date of last frost happens on June 15. It might get as low as -60°F during the coldest months of winter.

Keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is not always accurate because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 1a and it is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 1a we get surprised by a frost after June 15 so make sure that you are prepared to protect your anise if we have one of those late frosts.
