When can I plant Sutera in Zone 1a

One of the first steps we take when we are getting a good idea our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

Frost tolerance for sutera: Tolerant of a very small amount of frost.
When you should plant them: Up to 3 weeks before last frost.

Sutera are one of those plants that can tolerate a tiny bit of cold weather which tells us that you can plant them slightly earlier than plants that are more sensitive to the cold.

The earliest that you can plant sutera in Zone 1a is June. However, you really should wait until July if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant sutera and expect a good harvest is probably July. If you wait any later than that and your sutera may not have a chance to fully mature. Starting your sutera indoors is a great way to get them started a couple of weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 1a the average date of last frost happens on June 15. In the coldest months of winter we can expect an average low temperature of -60°F.

Keep in mind that USDA zone info for Zone 1a may not be accurate from year to year and our actual date of last frost can change quite a bit from year to year. Since half of the time in Zone 1a last frost occurs after June 15 be ready to protect your sutera if we have a surprise late frost.
