The earliest that you can plant pentas in Zone 1a is June. However, you really should wait until July if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant pentas and expect a good harvest is probably July. Any later than that and your pentas may not have a chance to fully mature. Starting your pentas indoors is a great way to get them started a little bit earlier.

The average date of last frost is June 15 in Zone 1a. You can expect an average low temperature of -60°F in the coldest months of winter.

Keep in mind that the actual date of last frost is not always accurate because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 1a and it can change quite a bit from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 1a last frost occurs after June 15 so make sure that you are prepared to cover your pentas if you have a late frost.
