The earliest that you can plant strawberries in Zone 1a is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant strawberries and expect a good harvest is probably July. Any later than that and your strawberries may not have a chance to grow to maturity. If you are starting your strawberries indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a couple of weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 1a the average date of last frost happens on June 15. It might get as low as -60°F during the coldest months of winter.

Keep in mind that USDA zone info for Zone 1a may not be accurate from year to year and the actual date of last frost is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 1a it frosts late in the year after June 15 so just be sure to be ready to protect your strawberries in the event of a surprise late frost.
