When can I plant Leeks in Zone 2b

Before planting it is a good idea to find our USDA Zone info to estimate our garden schedule. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

The earliest that you can plant leeks in Zone 2b is April. However, you really should wait until May if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant leeks and expect a good harvest is probably August. If you wait any later than that and your leeks may not have a chance to really do well. If you are starting your leeks indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a little bit earlier.

On average the last frost is on May 15 in Zone 2b. We should expect an average low temperature of -45°F in the coldest months of winter.

Always keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 2b and it can change quite a bit from year to year. Since half of the time in Zone 2b there is a last frost after May 15 be ready to protect your leeks if we have a surprise late frost.
