When to Plant Purslane in Zone 2b

The earliest that you can plant purslane in Zone 2b is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant purslane and expect a good harvest is probably August. Any later than that and your purslane may not have a chance to grow to maturity. If you are starting your purslane indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a couple of weeks earlier.

In Zone 2b the average date of last frost happens on May 15. It might get as low as -45°F during the coldest months of winter.

Always keep in mind that the actual date of last frost is just an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 2b and it can change quite a bit from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 2b you get a frost after May 15 so just be sure to be ready to cover your purslane in the event of a surprise late frost.
