When can I plant Watercress in Zone 2b

One of the first steps we take when we are determining our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

The earliest that you can plant watercress in Zone 2b is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant watercress and expect a good harvest is probably August. If you wait any later than that and your watercress may not have a chance to fully mature. Starting your watercress indoors is a great way to get them started a few weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 2b the average date of last frost happens on May 15. It might get as low as -45°F during the coldest months of winter.

Always keep in mind that USDA zone info for Zone 2b is just an average and our actual date of last frost will vary from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 2b we get surprised by a frost after May 15 so make sure that you are prepared to protect your watercress in the event of a surprise late frost.
