When can I plant Chinese celery in Zone 3a

One of the first steps we take when we are estimating our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

The earliest that you can plant chinese celery in Zone 3a is April. However, you really should wait until May if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant chinese celery and expect a good harvest is probably August. Any later than that and your chinese celery may not have a chance to grow to maturity. If you are starting your chinese celery indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a few weeks earlier.

It's important to remember that our actual date of last frost is an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 3a and it will vary from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 3a there is a last frost after May 15 so make sure that you are ready to cover your chinese celery if we have one of those late frosts.
