When can I plant Radicchio in Zone 3a

Radicchio are one of those plants that can tolerate a little bit of cold weather which tells us that you can plant them a little bit earlier than other frost tender plants.

The earliest that you can plant radicchio in Zone 3a is March. However, you really should wait until April if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant radicchio and expect a good harvest is probably August. If you wait any later than that and your radicchio may not have a chance to really do well. If you are starting your radicchio indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a couple of weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

The average date of last frost is May 15 in Zone 3a. It might get as low as -40°F during the coldest months of winter.

Since the USDA zone info for Zone 3a may not be accurate from year to year our actual date of last frost will vary from year to year. Since half of the time in Zone 3a we get a frost after May 15 be ready to protect your radicchio in the event of one of those late frosts.
