When can I plant Digitalis in Zone 3a

One of the first steps we take when we are getting a good idea our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

You should be able to determine when you can plant digitalis by reviewing the USDA zone info for Zone 3a.

You can plant digitalis just a bit earlier in the year because they are moderately cold tolerant.

The earliest that you can plant digitalis in Zone 3a is March. However, you really should wait until April if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant digitalis and expect a good harvest is probably August. If you wait any later than that and your digitalis may not have a chance to fully mature. Starting your digitalis indoors is a great way to get them started a few weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 3a the average date of last frost happens on May 15. In the coldest months of winter we should expect an average low temperature of -40°F.

Always keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is not always accurate because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 3a and it is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 3a it frosts late in the year after May 15 so make sure that you are prepared to protect your digitalis if we have a late frost.
