When to Plant Endive in Zone 3a

The earliest that you can plant endive in Zone 3a is March. However, you really should wait until April if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant endive and expect a good harvest is probably August. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your endive may not have a chance to fully mature. If you are starting your endive indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a few weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 3a the average date of last frost happens on May 15. It might get as low as -40°F during the coldest months of winter.

Always keep in mind that the actual date of last frost is an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 3a and it will vary from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 3a there is a last frost after May 15 so be sure to be ready to cover your endive in the event of one of those late frosts.
