When can I plant Celery in Zone 12a

One of the first steps we take when we are getting a good idea our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

In Zone 12a you can figure out when it's possible to plant celery by looking at the USDA zone info.

When you should plant them: Up to 3 weeks before last frost.

Since celery are one of those plants that can tolerate a tiny bit of cold weather you can plant them a bit earlier in the year than plants that are more sensitive to the cold.

The earliest that you can plant celery in Zone 12a is January. However, you really should wait until February if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant celery and expect a good harvest is probably November. If you wait any later than that and your celery may not have a chance to grow to maturity. Starting your celery indoors is a great way to get them started a couple of weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 12a it never frosts. We can expect an average low temperature of 50°F in the coldest months of winter.

Just be sure to remember that our actual date of last frost is an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 12a and it is different every year. Since it never frosts in Zone 12a you do not have to be ready to protect your celery in the event of one of those late frosts.
