When can I plant Borage in Zone 7a

One of the first steps we take when we are getting a good idea our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

The earliest that you can plant borage in Zone 7a is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant borage and expect a good harvest is probably September. Any later than that and your borage may not have a chance to fully mature. If you are starting your borage indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a couple of weeks earlier.

In Zone 7a the average date of last frost happens on April 15. We should expect an average low temperature of 0°F in the coldest months of winter.

Always keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is just an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 7a and it can change quite a bit from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 7a there is a last frost after April 15 so make sure that you are ready to protect your borage in the event of a late frost.
