When can I plant Endive in Zone 7a

One of the first steps we take when we are getting a good idea our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

You can plant endive a little earlier in the year because they are moderately cold tolerant.

The earliest that you can plant endive in Zone 7a is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant endive and expect a good harvest is probably September. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your endive may not have a chance to fully mature. Starting your endive indoors is a great way to get them started a few weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 7a the average date of last frost happens on April 15. In the coldest months of winter we can expect an average low temperature of 0°F.

Always keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is not always accurate because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 7a and it can change quite a bit from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 7a we get surprised by a frost after April 15 so be sure to be ready to cover your endive in the event of a surprise late frost.
