When can I plant Primula in Zone 7a

One of the first steps we take when we are determining our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

The earliest that you can plant primula in Zone 7a is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant primula and expect a good harvest is probably September. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your primula may not have a chance to really do well. If you are starting your primula indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a couple of weeks earlier.

On average the last frost is on April 15 in Zone 7a. We can expect an average low temperature of 0°F in the coldest months of winter.

Just be sure to remember that our actual date of last frost is just an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 7a and it changes from year to year. Half of the time in Zone 7a we get surprised by a frost after April 15 so make sure that you are ready to cover your primula if we have a surprise late frost.
