When can I plant Tarragon in Zone 7a

One of the first steps we take when we are figuring out our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

You should be able to determine when it's a good idea to plant tarragon by looking at the USDA zone info for Zone 7a.

You can plant tarragon a bit earlier in the year because they are one of those plants that can tolerate a tiny bit of cold weather.

The earliest that you can plant tarragon in Zone 7a is March. However, you really should wait until April if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant tarragon and expect a good harvest is probably August. Any later than that and your tarragon may not have a chance to grow to maturity. If you are starting your tarragon indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a couple of weeks earlier.

Keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is just an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 7a and it will vary from year to year. Since half of the time in Zone 7a we get a frost after April 15 be ready to cover your tarragon in the event of a surprise late frost.
