When can I plant Corn in Zone 7a

One of the first steps we take when we are figuring out our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

The first opportunity to plant corn in Zone 7a should be estimated by using the USDA zone info.

The earliest that you can plant corn in Zone 7a is April. However, you really should wait until May if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant corn and expect a good harvest is probably August. You probably don't want to wait any later than that or else your corn may not have a chance to really do well. Starting your corn indoors is a great way to get them started a couple of weeks earlier.

On average the last frost when the weather gets warmer is on April 15 in Zone 7a. In the coldest months of winter we should expect an average low temperature of 0°F.

Always keep in mind that our actual date of last frost is not always accurate because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 7a and it is different every year. Since half of the time in Zone 7a there is a last frost after April 15 be ready to cover your corn in the event of a late frost.
