When can I plant Lupine in Zone 7a

One of the first steps we take when we are determining our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

The earliest that you can plant lupine in Zone 7a is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant lupine and expect a good harvest is probably September. Any later than that and your lupine may not have a chance to fully mature. Starting your lupine indoors is a great way to get them started a little bit earlier.

The average date of last frost is April 15 in Zone 7a. It might get as low as 0°F during the coldest months of winter.

Always keep in mind that USDA zone info for Zone 7a may not be accurate from year to year and our actual date of last frost is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 7a we get surprised by a frost after April 15 so make sure that you are ready to cover your lupine in the event of one of those late frosts.
