When can I plant Pansies in Zone 7a

One of the first steps we take when we are making a decision about our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

A way of estimating when you can plant pansies is to use the USDA zone info for Zone 7a.

Pansies do well in cold which means that you can plant them much earlier than other frost tender plants.

The earliest that you can plant pansies in Zone 7a is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant pansies and expect a good harvest is probably September. If you wait any later than that and your pansies may not have a chance to really do well. Starting your pansies indoors is a great way to get them started a couple of weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 7a the average date of last frost happens on April 15. In the coldest months of winter we should expect an average low temperature of 0°F.

Since the USDA zone info for Zone 7a is not always accurate our actual date of last frost is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 7a there is a last frost after April 15 so be sure to be ready to cover your pansies in the event of a surprise late frost.
