When can I plant Tall Phlox in Zone 7a

One of the best tools that we have as gardeners to help us determine our gardening schedule is the USDA zone info. The most important data that the zone info tells us is average last frost and the lowest expected temperature for our area.

By referring to the USDA zone info for Zone 7a you should be able to determine when it's a good idea to plant tall phlox.

Since tall phlox are moderately cold tolerant you can plant them a bit earlier in the year than other plants that might not handle the cold.

The earliest that you can plant tall phlox in Zone 7a is February. However, you really should wait until March if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant tall phlox and expect a good harvest is probably September. If you wait any later than that and your tall phlox may not have a chance to really do well. Starting your tall phlox indoors is a great way to get them started a few weeks earlier.

In Zone 7a the average date of last frost happens on April 15. We should expect an average low temperature of 0°F in the coldest months of winter.
