When can I plant Bleeding Hearts in Zone 2a

One of the best tools that we have as gardeners to help us figure out our gardening schedule is the USDA zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

A way of making a decision about when to plant bleeding hearts is to look at the USDA zone info for Zone 2a.

When you should plant them: Up to 3 weeks before last frost.

Bleeding Hearts do ok in mild cold which means that you can plant them a bit earlier in the year than plants that are more sensitive to the cold.

The earliest that you can plant bleeding hearts in Zone 2a is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant bleeding hearts and expect a good harvest is probably August. If you wait any later than that and your bleeding hearts may not have a chance to fully mature. If you are starting your bleeding hearts indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a few weeks earlier.
