When can I plant Tarragon in Zone 2a

One of the first steps we take when we are making a decision about our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

It's a good idea to figure out when it's the best time to plant tarragon by referring to the USDA zone info for Zone 2a.

Tarragon are barely cold tolerant which tells us that you can start planting them slightly earlier than other plants that might not handle the cold.

The earliest that you can plant tarragon in Zone 2a is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant tarragon and expect a good harvest is probably August. If you wait any later than that and your tarragon may not have a chance to really do well. If you are starting your tarragon indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a little bit earlier.

Last Frost Date

The average date of last frost is May 15 in Zone 2a. In the coldest months of winter we can expect an average low temperature of -50°F.

Since the USDA zone info for Zone 2a is just an average our actual date of last frost is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 2a we get a frost after May 15 so be sure to be ready to cover your tarragon in the event of a late frost.
