You can plant lovage just a tiny bit earlier in the year because they are one of those plants that can tolerate a tiny bit of cold weather.

The earliest that you can plant lovage in Zone 2a is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant lovage and expect a good harvest is probably August. Any later than that and your lovage may not have a chance to really do well. If you are starting your lovage indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a couple of weeks earlier.

On average the last frost is on May 15 in Zone 2a. In the coldest months of winter you should expect an average low temperature of -50°F.

Just be sure to remember that USDA zone info for Zone 2a is not always accurate and the actual date of last frost is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 2a it frosts late in the year after May 15 so make sure that you are ready to cover your lovage in the event of a late frost.
