When can I plant Impatiens in Zone 2a

One of the first steps we take when we are getting a good idea our gardening schedule is find our USDA Zone info. The zone info helps tell us things like average date of last frost and lowest expected temperature for our area.

The earliest that you can plant impatiens in Zone 2a is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant impatiens and expect a good harvest is probably August. Any later than that and your impatiens may not have a chance to grow to maturity. If you are starting your impatiens indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a few weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

In Zone 2a the average date of last frost happens on May 15. We can expect an average low temperature of -50°F in the coldest months of winter.

Always keep in mind that USDA zone info for Zone 2a is an average and our actual date of last frost will vary from year to year. Since half of the time in Zone 2a we get surprised by a frost after May 15 be ready to cover your impatiens in the event of one of those late frosts.
