You can plant chervil just a tiny bit earlier in the year because they are barely cold tolerant.

The earliest that you can plant chervil in Zone 2a is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant chervil and expect a good harvest is probably August. Any later than that and your chervil may not have a chance to fully mature. If you are starting your chervil indoors then you might be able to get away with starting them a few weeks earlier.

Last Frost Date

On average all chance of frost has passed is on May 15 in Zone 2a. You should expect an average low temperature of -50°F in the coldest months of winter.

Keep in mind that the actual date of last frost is just an average because it is based on the USDA zone info for Zone 2a and it is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 2a there is a last frost after May 15 so make sure that you are prepared to cover your chervil if you have one of those late frosts.

This means that on a really cold year, the coldest it will get is -50°F. On most years you should be prepared to experience lows near -45°F.
