The earliest that you can plant potatos in Zone 2a is April. However, you really should wait until May if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant potatos and expect a good harvest is probably August. If you wait any later than that and your potatos may not have a chance to fully mature. Starting your potatos indoors is a great way to get them started a little bit earlier.

In Zone 2a the average date of last frost happens on May 15. You should expect an average low temperature of -50°F in the coldest months of winter.

Since the USDA zone info for Zone 2a may not be accurate from year to year the actual date of last frost is different every year. Half of the time in Zone 2a last frost occurs after May 15 so always be ready to cover your potatos if you have a late frost.
