When can I plant Gomphrena in Zone 2a

The earliest that you can plant gomphrena in Zone 2a is May. However, you really should wait until June if you don't want to take any chances.

The last month that you can plant gomphrena and expect a good harvest is probably August. Any later than that and your gomphrena may not have a chance to really do well. You can get started a couple of weeks earlier by starting your gomphrena indoors.

In Zone 2a the average date of last frost happens on May 15. In the coldest months of winter we can expect an average low temperature of -50°F.

Just be sure to remember that USDA zone info for Zone 2a is an average and our actual date of last frost can change quite a bit from year to year. Since half of the time in Zone 2a it frosts late in the year after May 15 be ready to protect your gomphrena in the event of a surprise late frost.
